Artificial Intelligence can currently assemble data from multiple sources and re-identify a person’s identity from de-identified materials. Does this render current legal protections of privacy obsolete?

In support of a Direct Right of Action under the Privacy Act

It is increasingly difficult to participate in the economy without disclosing personal information to entities online. Data is seen by entities as an asset, as the ‘new oil’, rather than a liability. A direct right of action should be implemented to advance the out-dated law in Australia with regard to invasions of privacy.

WIP: Artificial Intelligence, Harm and Corporate Responsibility: Regulatory Responses

This paper argues that existing regulatory regimes that apply to corporations in Australia can, with some limitations, address responsibility for and harm caused by AI actions, with a particular focus on targeting and profiling AI tools. This available approach can incentivise better corporate behaviour and decisions with respect to AI. Discusses legislative changes that may better facilitate this approach.
